Nepal's terrain

Five worlds.
One Nepal.
All explored.

Map & Mountain has guided expeditions through Nepal since 2004 — from incense-thick temple alleyways in Kathmandu to the windswept silence of Mustang's forbidden cliffs. Every route is led by IFMGA-certified Nepali guides who grew up on these trails.

We keep groups small and guides paid fairly. We have completed over 4,800 treks without a single client incident.

Our Philosophy

Guides first.
Operators second.
Everything else last.

Map & Mountain was founded in Kathmandu in 2004 by three Sherpa guides who had spent a combined forty years leading expeditions through the Himalayas.

Every guide on our team is Nepali. Every rupee of profit is reinvested in guide families' education or trail maintenance. We pay three times the industry average — because we can, and because it's right.

We keep group sizes small — never more than eight trekkers per guide. The mountain experience deserves attention, not crowd management.

Trek
We have never lost a client. We intend to keep it that way.
Three Principles

How we operate

01 — Guide first.
Our guides are partners, not contractors. They share profits and have full authority to abort any trek they judge unsafe.

02 — Leave trace.
Pack-in, pack-out on all routes. 5% of every booking goes directly to the Nepal Trail Maintenance Fund we co-founded in 2012.

03 — Small groups.
Maximum eight trekkers per guide. No exceptions. The mountain deserves quiet. You deserve attention. Neither is possible at larger scale.

The mountain experience deserves attention, not crowd management.
